“Coming from Not Knowing” by Frederick Rule will be featured at the Frankfurt Book Fair 2025, taking place 15–19 October at Messe Frankfurt. The book will be exhibited at Hall 5.1, Stand D86, part of the collaborative showcase by The Maple Staple and Inks & Bindings, who are returning to Frankfurt with more than 150 titles on display.
Rule's memoir traces his path from growing up as the fifth of ten children on a Mississippi cotton plantation to the U.S. Air Force, the stage lights of Phantom of the Opera, and ultimately a career in psychology. Confronting the realities of racial identity, invisibility, and internalized oppression, he recounts how anonymity as the Phantom brought unexpected freedom, and how one transformative encounter with a therapist reshaped his life. At its heart, the book is a call to resilience, truth, and the courage to connect more deeply with others.
Drawing on his lived experiences, from childhood in the Deep South to academic achievement with a Master's degree in Psychology, Rule offers readers an intimate exploration of the search for self-worth and belonging in a complex world.
The Maple Staple, in its second year at Frankfurt and joined for the first time by its strategic partner Inks & Bindings, will present an expansive program that includes book signings, giveaways, and a debut audiobook listening area. Together, they aim to shine a spotlight on diverse, independent voices such as Rule's.
“Coming from Not Knowing” will be exhibited at Hall 5.1, Stand D86 during the Frankfurt Book Fair 2025. Visitors are invited to view the book at the stand, while global readers can explore the memoir through Amazon and other major retailers worldwide.
