Academy Award-winning artist Doug Drexler has spent more than four decades helping create specialty makeup and visual effects for some of the most beloved science fiction and fantasy productions in film and television. He won an Oscar for his makeup work on Warren Beatty’s Dick Tracy, earned two Emmy Awards for his visual effects work on Battlestar Galactica, and received eight Emmy nominations throughout his career, including two for Star Trek: The Next Generation. His creative contributions to Star Trek – from starships and graphics to props and alien designs – have helped define the franchise’s iconic visual identity.

In Trek Star, Drexler tells the remarkable story of how a lifelong obsession with Star Trek led to a career beyond his wildest dreams. The book traces his journey from a young fan captivated by Captain Kirk and the USS Enterprise to becoming one of the franchise’s most influential behind-the-scenes creators.

Filled with humor, heart, and candid reflections, Trek Star takes readers inside some of television and film’s most memorable productions. Drexler shares stories of working alongside Hollywood legends, transforming actors into comic book gangsters for Dick Tracy, designing the Enterprise NX-01 and other iconic starships, and helping bring imaginative worlds to life through makeup, production design, and visual effects.

“Doug’s story proves that passion and perseverance can lead to extraordinary places,” said Marc Cushman, Star Trek historian, writer and author.  “He didn’t just become part of the franchise that inspired him – he helped shape it for future generations. Trek Star is both an entertaining Hollywood memoir and an inspiring reminder of what can happen when you follow your dreams.”

Beyond Dick Tracy, Battlestar Galactica, and Star Trek: The Next Generation, Drexler’s ongoing career includes acclaimed work on the series Star Trek: Enterprise, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Star Trek: Picard, the films Star Trek: First Contact and Star Trek: Generations, the series The Orville, and numerous other film and television projects.

Part memoir, part Hollywood history, and part love letter to fandom, Trek Star is the story of what can happen when a lifelong passion becomes a career.

Print and digital copies are now available on Amazon.com, BarnesAndNoble.com, and Apple Books.
